Get your running shoes ready, the Mustang Fun Run is on its way! This year our entire school is fundraising to keep and expand the enriching programs at MME such as Baile Folklorico, field trips, SEAL and more. Our goal is to raise $20,000 and we invite you to help us! Our 99Pledges website is up and this week information packets went home with students. You can register your student with our online platform by either signing up directly on 99Pledges (just scroll down and click on the red button that says “add participant”) or by returning the orange permission slip to the office. Registering for online donations allows friends and family to easily donate and support our school.

Volunteers Needed – Picture Day

Picture Day is Wednesday, September 25th and MME staff is requesting 2-4 volunteers from 8:45 am – 12 pm to help the classrooms through the process. They’d appreciate the help even if you can only make it for an hour or two during that time.

Active4.Me Bike & Walk to School Program

Active4.Me is a program at MME and other Davis schools that encourages students to bike or walk to school. Students carry a barcode tag on a keychain that is scanned by volunteers once they arrive at school, and caregivers are automatically notified via text or email.

To sign up, please collect a registration form and barcode tag from the MME office, or ask a volunteer scanner who will be by the bike racks in the morning. Once you have completed the form, please return it to the office or a volunteer, and make sure to attach the barcode tag to a backpack or other item that your student will bring to school every day.

The form will ask you to supply a username. Please choose a name that your child will like and remember. The username can be used if the barcode is accidentally left at home or temporarily goes missing. If the tag is permanently lost, a volunteer can arrange for a replacement.

One more thing: some experienced volunteers have scanned for long enough that they remember many of the usernames. But every year brings new students, and most likely some new scanners. So please remind your student to come up to the scanner in the morning to show their tag or tell them their username to make sure they get scanned and you get a message to confirm that they have arrived at school.

Volunteers Needed – Círculo de Lectura

Círculo is MME’s 100% volunteer powered, take-home reading program for all students in grades K-3.  Thank you to everyone who signed up to volunteer this school year!  We appreciate your commitment to MME students.

We still have several volunteer shifts to fill.  Can you help?  Do you have 30 to 60 minutes once a week to exchange books? The work is easy, can be completed anytime during the school day and training is provided.  We cannot provide books to our students every school day without volunteers for all classes.

For 1st – 3rd grades, we still have the following shifts to fill:

Lemes: Wednesdays

Guerrero:  Mondays

Manzanedo:  Mondays & Fridays

Mendez:  Tuesdays & Wednesdays

Nava: Mondays

STEAC Volunteer Needed

STEAC (Yolo County’s Short Term Emergency Aid Committee) currently provides food packs to 6 DJUSD schools. Last year, of the 250 total packs that they distributed, 130 packs specifically went to MME students. STEAC started delivering these packs again to MME on Friday 9/13.

This school year, MME staff have requested 150 food packs and STEAC is happy to provide the increased amount! However, STEAC is seeking support with loading the packs into the van beforehand. This volunteer shift would be approximately 1.5 hours starting between 8:30 and 9:30am each Friday at their food pantry located at 642 Hawthorn Lane (behind St. Martin’s Church) and involves loading the van with the packs and delivering the packs to MME (but not driving the van) and unloading at MME.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: PIONEER AUCTION SWAP – OCT. 11

We’re in need of volunteers to help with Pioneer’s auction on Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. Our schools organize a volunteer swap for our auctions, and we strongly rely on the pool of volunteers that Pioneer brings to our MME Auction each year. Pioneer is asking for volunteers to help only during the event itself, until about 10 p.m. – no setup or cleanup support needed!

And believe it or not, we’re already hard at work planning MME’s next Annual Auction & Dinner! Please save the date for Saturday, Feb. 8. We promise it will be an event you won’t want to miss!

Davis Musical Theater Company Young Performers Present: The Addams Family

The Addams Family Musical, featuring some of our talented MME students, opened this weekend and runs every weekend through October 6th at the Davis Musical Theatre.  It’s the perfect show to get you in the spooky mood for Halloween!  Showtimes and tickets here.

nuestra escuela está recaudando fondos para mantener y ampliar los programas

de enriquecimiento del MME, como Baile Folklórico, excursiones, SEAL y más. ¡Nuestro objetivo es recaudar $20,000 y te invitamos a ayudarnos! Se necesitan voluntarios – Día de la Foto

El día de la Foto es este miércoles 25 de septiembre y el equipo del MME está solicitando 2-4 voluntarios de 8:45 am a 12 pm para ayudar en los salones durante el proceso. El equipo del MME estará muy agradecido de su ayuda, aunque sea por una o dos horas dentro del día.

Programa Active4.Me, Camina o ven en Bicicleta a la Escuela

Active4.Me es un programa en MME y otras escuelas de Davis que promueve que los estudiantes caminen o vayan en bicicleta al colegio. Los estudiantes llevan consigo una tarjeta con un código de barras en una cadena tipo llavero que es escaneada por padres voluntarios cuando los niños llegan al colegio. Una vez escaneada la tarjeta, los apoderados reciben automáticamente una notificación vía mensaje de texto o email.

Para inscribirte, por favor recoge el formulario de registro y una tarjeta con el código de barras en la oficina del MME, o pregunta a uno de los voluntarios que están escaneando las tarjetas en los estacionamientos de bicicletas en la mañana durante la recepción de los niños. Una vez completado el formulario, por favor devuélvelo en la oficina o a unos de los voluntarios y asegúrate de que tu estudiante lleve su tarjeta colgando en su mochila u otro objeto que el niño/a lleve a la escuela cada día.

El formulario te pedirá asignar un nombre de usuario. Por favor elije un nombre que a tu estudiante le guste y pueda recordar. Si por cualquier motivo el estudiante olvida la tarjeta en casa o se le pierde temporalmente, el nombre de usuario puede ser usado de forma alternativa. Si la tarjeta se pierde de forma permanente, puedes acercarte a un voluntario para reemplazarla.

Una cosa más: algunos voluntarios más experimentados han participado en el programa por tanto tiempo que pueden recordar muchos de los nombres de usuario de los niños. Pero cada año llegan nuevos estudiantes y posiblemente nuevos padres voluntarios que escanean las tarjetas, así es que por favor recuérdale a tu estudiante que se acerque al voluntario cada mañana para mostrarle su tarjeta o indicarle su nombre de usuario para asegurarse de que sea escaneado y tú puedas recibir el mensaje de confirmación de que tu estudiante llegó a la escuela.

Se necesitan voluntarios – Círculo de Lectura

Círculo es el programa de lectura a través del cual los estudiantes de Kinder a 3er grado llevan a casa libros para leer. El programa es 100% realizado por voluntarios. ¡Gracias a todos los que ya se inscribieron para ser voluntarios este año escolar! Agradecemos su compromiso con los estudiantes de MME.

Todavía tenemos varios turnos de voluntarios por cubrir. ¿Puedes ayudar? ¿Tienes entre 30 y 60 minutos una vez por semana para intercambiar libros? El trabajo es fácil, se puede completar en cualquier momento durante el día escolar y brindamos entrenamiento. No se necesita saber inglés. Sin voluntarios para todas las clases no será posible proporcionar libros a nuestros estudiantes todos los días escolares.

Para 1º – 3º grados, todavía tenemos los siguientes turnos por cubrir:

Se necesitan voluntarios para STEAC

Actualmente, STEAC (por sus siglas en inglés Short Term Emergency Aid Committee) proporciona paquetes de alimentos a 6 escuelas de nuestro distrito escolar DJUSD. El año pasado, de los 250 paquetes totales que distribuyeron, 130 fueron destinados específicamente a estudiantes del MME. STEAC comenzó a entregar estos paquetes nuevamente a nuestra escuela el viernes 13 de septiembre.

Este año escolar, el personal de MME ha solicitado 150 paquetes de alimentos ¡y STEAC se complace en entregar esta mayor cantidad! Sin embargo, STEAC está buscando apoyo para cargar los paquetes en la furgoneta con anticipación. Este turno de voluntarios sería de aproximadamente 1,5 horas todos los viernes por la mañana comenzando entre las 8:30 y las 9:30 am. en su despensa de alimentos ubicada en 642 Hawthorn Lane (detrás de la Iglesia de St. Martin) e implica cargar la van con los paquetes, enviarlos al MME (pero NO manejar la van), y descargarlos en el MME.

Por favor, comunícate con Hana Kim (hking@steac.org) si tú o algún conocido tuyo puede desempeñar este rol crítico de voluntario.

SE NECESITAN VOLUNTARIOS: INTERCAMBIO CON LA SUBASTA DE LA ESCUELA PIONEER – 11 OCT

Necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar con la subasta de Pioneer el 11 de octubre a las 5:30 p.m. Nuestras escuelas organizan un intercambio de voluntarios para nuestras subastas, y dependemos en gran medida del grupo de voluntarios que Pioneer trae a nuestra subasta de MME cada año. Pioneer está pidiendo voluntarios para ayudar sólo durante el evento en sí, hasta aproximadamente las 10 p.m., ¡no se necesita apoyo para la instalación ni para la limpieza!

Y lo creas o no, ¡ya estamos trabajando arduamente en la planificación de la próxima subasta y cena anual de MME! Por favor, reserva la fecha para el sábado 8 de febrero. ¡Te prometemos que será un evento que no querrás perderte!
