MME Site Council

What is the School Site Council (SSC)?

The School Site Council (SSC) is a team of parents, teachers, and school staff who work together to improve our school by ensuring that certain state and federal funds are used effectively to support student achievement.

While the PTA focuses on building community and supporting enrichment through fundraising and events, the SSC plays a key role in academic planning and school funding decisions. Specifically, the SSC helps develop, approve, and monitor the school’s School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) — a strategy designed to support learning goals and improve outcomes for all students, especially for those who need it most. Most of the parents on site council are PTA members, but site council is not a PTA-based group.

Voting members of the SSC include an equal number of school staff (certificated and classified) and parent/community members, ensuring that family voices are part of important decisions that impact our school.

How Can I Get Involved?

Marguerite Montgomery Elementary School SSC meetings are open to the public, and all members of the school community are welcome to attend. Each year, new voting member positions open through an election process held at the end of the school year.

Planning discussions for the upcoming SPSA (e.g., the 2026–2027 plan) often take place in the spring. The SPSA must align with the district’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), ensuring that school-level strategies support broader district goals for student success. Attending meetings is a great way to contribute early ideas and help shape the plan the next SSC will implement.so attending meetings is a great way to contribute early ideas and help shape the plan the next SSC will implement.

We encourage you to come see school governance in action — your voice matters!

 How Is Student Success Measured?

The SSC uses a variety of data sources to understand how students are doing. Common metrics to measure student success include:

  • YouthTruth Survey – a national student and stakeholder feedback survey that provides insights into school climate and culture
  • Monty Asks Survey – a school-specific survey led by the MME Climate Committee to capture student experiences at Marguerite Montgomery
  • California School Dashboard – statewide data on academic performance, absenteeism, suspension rates, and more
  • CAASPP Test Results – standardized test scores for English Language Arts, Math, Science in grades 3–6. Here you can check an updated timeline for this tests for the 2025-2026 school year.
  • School Report Cards – detailed annual summaries of school performance, including academic and demographic data

Understanding these tools helps families be informed partners in shaping the school’s goals and tracking progress over time.
