Short Term Emergency Aid Committee (STEAC):
this is a nonprofit in the area and who provides weekend food packs to students in DJUSD. Montgomery Elementary receives 140 food packs on a weekly basis. STEAC delivers the food packs to MME campus on Friday mornings.
STEAC Food Packs for Kids – Montgomery Elementary Delivery
Short Term Emergency Aid Committee (STEAC) is looking for a volunteer to assist with the food
pack delivery to MME. This is an ongoing, weekly commitment through June 2026.
Food Packs for Kids Program
STEAC provides food packs to children in Yolo county who face food insecurity. Over 450 food
packs are distributed every week in Davis, Winters, and Woodland (preschool to high school).
These packs are intended for youth who rely on school meals during the week to take home for
the weekend when access to food at home may be more limited.
Volunteer Position Description
The pack delivery to MME is done by a pair of volunteers. STEAC is seeking one additional
volunteer to assist with the task on a weekly basis. The time commitment is around 2 hours
every week on Friday mornings.
Timeline
● 9:00am – Pair of volunteers arrive at the Kids Pack storage room
○ Church of St. Martin in Davis – 640 Hawthorn Lane
● Load up the designated number of food packs into the STEAC van
● Van is driven to MME (See ‘Van Driving’ below)
● Food Packs are unloaded onto carts at the school
● Van is driven back to St. Martin Church to return the wagons. Usually pair arrives back
around 11:00am – 11:15am.
Van Driving
Only certified volunteers can drive the STEAC van. If the volunteer who takes the position is
interested and comfortable with eventually becoming a van driver, we can definitely discuss.
