Marguerite Montgomery Elementary and Recess Reboot
MME PTA and MME Site Council is proud to bring Playworks to our school, to make recess a fun, inclusive time for every student. We are partnering with Playworks for a consultancy service called Recess Reboot. Training will take place from Tuesday September 30 – Friday October 3rd. During that time, a bilingual Playworks trainer, Rafael Molina, will work with our school students, staff, teachers and administrators to make sure recess fosters social and emotional learning and builds leadership skills in our kids.

Playworks is a leading nonprofit in California and nationally using play to transform schools and ensure every kid on the playground feels included, remain active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. Our staff and students will learn techniques to positively transform our school environment, from the playground to the classroom. This is essential to having a safe school recess space where learning can take place.
What are the Outcomes from using playworks?
What happens at recess matters throughout the day. By making sure that all kids have opportunities for safe and healthy play at recess, we aim to:
- Increase student well-being
- Reduce bullying
- Provide more time for classroom teaching by facilitating transitions
- Equip students with the social and emotional skills they need to thrive inside and outside of the classroom.
- Increase physical activity
How will we check on this program throughout the year?
To secure the sustainability of this effort, MME School Site Council is funding a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) Paraeducator for the 2025-2026 school year, to follow up on an Action Plan that will be co-developed between MME School and Playworks. This well help us manage specific needs of our school, and establish a culture that may be maintained for future years.
How are we funding this Program?
MME PTA is providing the funding to pay for Playworks to come and teach our staff and students, and for online training information, rule books and check ins.
MME Site Council is allocating some of their funds to pay for a Recess Paraeducator who will manage this program, and help weave the Playworks program into every recess and P.E. break.
